Handel's Messiah

In 1741 Handel gave what he said was his final concert. However, a few months later, he was shown Charles Jennens’ libretto for a long choral work tracing the life of Christ. The libretto fanned the creative fires within Handel again and so he composed Messiah. Handel’s oratorio contains a wonderful message about God’s promised King, known in Hebrew as Messiah and in Greek as Christ.
